Hello! Hope everyone had a nice weekend!

 Today we: 

  • had a fire drill in the afternoon to practice how to safely evaluate the building in the event of a fire - our class goal is to be more quiet next time - we will be practicing before our next fire drill as we are the leaders of the school, and the younger grades look up to us! 
  • created storyboards for the story called "how the rabbit got his long ears" - we are retelling the important parts on the story board
  • set goals in health class - ask me about mine! 
  • continued to work on translations in math 
Reminders:
  • No School on Friday, October 8th 2021 (it is a PD day for teachers )and there is also no school on Monday, October 11th 2021 (it is Thanksgiving Monday). School will resume on Tuesday, October 12th 2021.
  • As the weather gets colder, please ensure you are dressed for the weather (including jackets, hats, mitts, boots, etc. if needed) - students go out for AM recess, lunch recess, outdoor learning and even P.E. sometimes. Indoor shoes must stay dry and inside. 
  • Picture Day will be on Wednesday, October 20th 2021- paper notification will go home tomorrow afternoon!

Hello NLS families - hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!  This week is a full 5 day week! Lots that we are currently doing in class.  Today we: continued to work on our Wetland Creatures Stories (everyone is working on their typing their good copies - our goal is to finish these stories up later this week).  had our second "Trickster's Theater" virtual workshop - today we wrote a story about a desert location and a man on a camel! We learned different ways and strategies to create interesting and creative stories!  continued to work on our social studies mini project about natural resources (you can see more about this task on our google classroom) - we should be finishing this project up tomorrow in class.  had P.E. also continued to practice using whole numbers by representing and describing them! The three ways that students can represent or describe these numbers are in standard form (86 322) expanded form (80 000 + 6 000 + 300 + 20 + 2) and in words ...

Tuesday, November 9th 2021

 Hello NLS Families, This short week is flying by! Today we: read more of our read-aloud novel "The Jumbies" - we are starting to get close to the end of the book (about 12 chapters to go)! It's getting quite intense and we aren't sure what will happen next, but lots of people are making predictions.  worked on the editing and good copies of our Wetland Creature Stories - we will continue to work on this tomorrow and into next week we had music and P.E.!  continued to work on whole numbers in math and using the 3 ways we can represent and describe numbers - standard (93 245), expanded (90 000 + 3 000 + 200 + 40 + 5) and word form (ninety-three thousand two hundred forty-five). We learned all three ways represent the same value, but we can express the numbers in many ways. we also talked about safety in health class. Hello NLS families, Today we: continued to work on our rough copies of our wetland stories. Hopefully students will finish up on the next few days, then we will move onto editing. continued to learn more about Natural Resources found in Canada. We started a visual journal page about our research. This task can be found on Google Classroom - it is NOT homework though- we will continue to work on this over the next few social studies classes - but you can look at your child’s Google Classroom for more, if you are curious  continued to learn about whole numbers and place value today. We practiced and took up questions today - focusing on standard form, expanded form, and word form. Example: standard form would be 56 236, expanded form would be 50 000 + 6 000 + 200 + 30 + 6, and in word form it would be written as fifty six thousand two hundred thirty six.  learned a new math game today read 2 more chapters from our read aloud novel and had gym today!  Reminders: Photo orders...
