Hello!

Hope you all had a great Wednesday. 

Today we:

  • in P.E. we played a game called "treasure island"
  • learned about and practiced: reflections, rotations, translations  in math class! 
  • we read the story of "how the rabbit got it's long ears" and we talked about descriptions, setting and visualizing while we listen to/read stories
  • started RRJs (reading response journals) - we will work on them in class (as we read) and hand them in for Ms. Clark to read every other week. 
Reminders:
  • Tomorrow (Thursday, September 23rd) is the Terry Fox Run! You can still bring in any donations (or donate online - see previous email regarding this)! So far our class has raised over $60.00 for cancer research. Our whole school goal was $1000.00. Additionally, as the run is tomorrow, please make sure to dress appropriately for the weather - the run will be taking place outside tomorrow morning.
  • Meet the Teacher - Virtual Presentation is tomorrow (Thursday, September 23rd) - lots of parents have signed up, but if you haven't yet, please see the school messenger updates regarding this, or contact the office if you need more help! We can't wait to 'meet' you tomorrow!
  • No school this Friday, September 24th - it is a PD day for teachers. Enjoy your long weekend! 
  • Indoor Shoes - if you haven't brought indoor shoes in yet, please do so as the weather will be changing soon!

Hello NLS families - hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!  This week is a full 5 day week! Lots that we are currently doing in class.  Today we: continued to work on our Wetland Creatures Stories (everyone is working on their typing their good copies - our goal is to finish these stories up later this week).  had our second "Trickster's Theater" virtual workshop - today we wrote a story about a desert location and a man on a camel! We learned different ways and strategies to create interesting and creative stories!  continued to work on our social studies mini project about natural resources (you can see more about this task on our google classroom) - we should be finishing this project up tomorrow in class.  had P.E. also continued to practice using whole numbers by representing and describing them! Hello, and welcome to the end of another busy week here at NLS! Today we: played BBQ tag in P.E. continued to work on art (our "what if everybody did that" project) - we are all working on our good copies or have just finished! learned about everyone's culture - today was Culture Day, so lots of students shared about their families! celebrated our first week with the Kindness Jar! Ask me about it this weekend! Hello and welcome to October! Today we: played Literacy Games during our Literacy Block Centres (Literacy Games are only played on Fridays) had gym! We played a version of 4 corners and also fruit salad tag had an assembly to kick off "Field Study Fridays" - it was a virtual smudge ceremony and then we went on a short walking field trip to do our land offering. When we got back we did a small reflection on this.  had lots of time to read and play math games to practice our basic math facts Reminders: Orange Shirt Day Ceremony Hearts are going home today- please be careful when unpacking your backpacks tonight/this weekend! The hearts can be placed outside (e.g., front porch, front steps, maybe into a garden in the front - or wherever it fits for your family). The idea is to show that we are supportive and welcoming! The hearts are made of concrete, so they should be fairly strong.
