Welcome to the new blog!

As a team, we decided this format (with each class having it's own blog) might be a bit more of a simpler way for parents/guardians to get the specific information about our homeroom! 

I will still be posting daily blog posts/updates, that our class will be writing together. In addition, I will be posting any key reminders, etc that will be helpful for families.

Hello! Hope you all had a great Wednesday.  Today we: in P.E. we played a game called "treasure island" learned about and practiced: reflections, rotations, translations  in math class!  we read the story of "how the rabbit got it's long ears" and we talked about descriptions, setting and visualizing while we listen to/read stories started RRJs (reading response journals) - we will work on them in class (as we read) and hand them in for Ms. Clark to read every other week.  Reminders: Tomorrow (Thursday, September 23rd) is the Terry Fox Run! You can still bring in any donations (or donate online - see previous email regarding this)! So far our class has raised over $60.00 for cancer research. Our whole school goal was $1000.00. Additionally, as the run is tomorrow, please make sure to dress appropriately for the weather - the run will be taking place outside tomorrow morning. Hello and welcome to October! Today we: played Literacy Games during our Literacy Block Centres (Literacy Games are only played on Fridays) had gym! We played a version of 4 corners and also fruit salad tag had an assembly to kick off "Field Study Fridays" - it was a virtual smudge ceremony and then we went on a short walking field trip to do our land offering. When we got back we did a small reflection on this.  had lots of time to read and play math games to practice our basic math facts Reminders: Orange Shirt Day Ceremony Hearts are going home today- please be careful when unpacking your backpacks tonight/this weekend! The hearts can be placed outside (e.g., front porch, front steps, maybe into a garden in the front - or wherever it fits for your family). The idea is to show that we are supportive and welcoming! The hearts are made of concrete, so they should be fairly strong.

While exploring the intricate system of the Wetlands, we dove into a heated topic about protecting the land and creatures who depend on it. After watching a visually enthralling read aloud of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, 5A were tasked with writing a letter to either the Once-ler or the Lorax with their point of view on the situation. They were meant to emphasize the greed of the Once-ler and how the need for trees will affect multiple parts of life in the area. Everyone could comprehend the harm that the greed was causing and the need for oxygen needed for things to live. We also made a pledge to spread kindness and shed light this holiday season and wrote our pledge on Christmas tree cut outs.
