Hello all!

Today was a busy day. We:

  • continued to work on our Wetland Creatures Stories! Everyone is working on either the good copy of their story OR working on their artwork for the cover of their story. 
  • listened to 3 more chapters of our class novel, "The Jumbies" - we are in the final chapters of the book - we only have 5 more to go, and we will finish this up this week! Then we will do our book reviews. 
  • continued to work on our social studies task about Natural Resources in Canada - more information can be found on google classroom if needed. 
  • had music! 
  • had health - we were continuing to talk about safety at home, at school, in the community and when taking part in recreational activities. 
  • worked more on whole numbers in math - we are still practicing expanded, standard and word forms, as well as identifying place value, etc. We worked on lots of questions discussing and practicing this!
Reminders:
  • Remember to dress for the weather! Students go out for both recesses everyday - and for Field Study Fridays - students should have: hats, mitts/gloves, jackets, boots, snow pants, etc! 
  • November 25th 2021 - Fun Lunch Starts!

Hello NLS families - hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!  This week is a full 5 day week! Lots that we are currently doing in class.  Today we: continued to work on our Wetland Creatures Stories (everyone is working on their typing their good copies - our goal is to finish these stories up later this week).  had our second "Trickster's Theater" virtual workshop - today we wrote a story about a desert location and a man on a camel! We learned different ways and strategies to create interesting and creative stories!  continued to work on our social studies mini project about natural resources (you can see more about this task on our google classroom) - we should be finishing this project up tomorrow in class.  had P.E. also continued to practice using whole numbers by representing and describing them! Hello, and welcome to the end of another busy week here at NLS! Today we: played BBQ tag in P.E. continued to work on art (our "what if everybody did that" project) - we are all working on our good copies or have just finished! learned about everyone's culture - today was Culture Day, so lots of students shared about their families! celebrated our first week with the Kindness Jar! Ask me about it this weekend! Hello and welcome to October! Today we: played Literacy Games during our Literacy Block Centres (Literacy Games are only played on Fridays) had gym! We played a version of 4 corners and also fruit salad tag had an assembly to kick off "Field Study Fridays" - it was a virtual smudge ceremony and then we went on a short walking field trip to do our land offering. When we got back we did a small reflection on this.  had lots of time to read and play math games to practice our basic math facts Reminders: Orange Shirt Day Ceremony Hearts are going home today- please be careful when unpacking your backpacks tonight/this weekend! The hearts can be placed outside (e.g., front porch, front steps, maybe into a garden in the front - or wherever it fits for your family). The idea is to show that we are supportive and welcoming! The hearts are made of concrete, so they should be fairly strong.
