Happy Friday!

Today we:

  • worked on our Wetland Creature Stories! Most students finished their rough copy - and many are so close! On Monday, we will go over editing and do both self and peer edits. After that, we will work on the good copies (typed on Chrome Books) and artwork to go along with our story! We also read and played Literacy Games today too!
  • had Phys. Ed!
  • continued to read our read aloud- "The Jumbies" - we read 2 chapters and sketched the most important details in our Visual Journals! We're over halfway through the novel now! Ask me this weekend about what is happening in the book or what might happen next!
  • prepared for and learned more about Remembrance Day - we read 2 books, discussed "what does peace mean?" and created a visual reminder for what peace means - this visual display will be in the school's main foyer ("the prairie") next week for Remembrance Day. I will take a picture next week when the display is put up. We also came up with questions for another part of our Remembrance Day Ceremony called "ask a Service Member" - Ms. Clark's husband is in the Canadian Armed Forces, and all of the classes in the school have been coming up with questions that they would like to ask him! We collected questions and he will be answering them next week for a part of our Ceremony.

Hello NLS families - hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!  This week is a full 5 day week! Lots that we are currently doing in class.  Today we: continued to work on our Wetland Creatures Stories (everyone is working on their typing their good copies - our goal is to finish these stories up later this week).  had our second "Trickster's Theater" virtual workshop - today we wrote a story about a desert location and a man on a camel! We learned different ways and strategies to create interesting and creative stories!  continued to work on our social studies mini project about natural resources (you can see more about this task on our google classroom) - we should be finishing this project up tomorrow in class.  had P.E. also continued to practice using whole numbers by representing and describing them! Friday, October 1st 2021

Hello and welcome to October! Today we: played Literacy Games during our Literacy Block Centres (Literacy Games are only played on Fridays) had gym! We played a version of 4 corners and also fruit salad tag had an assembly to kick off "Field Study Fridays" - it was a virtual smudge ceremony and then we went on a short walking field trip to do our land offering. When we got back we did a small reflection on this.  had lots of time to read and play math games to practice our basic math facts Reminders: Orange Shirt Day Ceremony Hearts are going home today- please be careful when unpacking your backpacks tonight/this weekend! The hearts can be placed outside (e.g., front porch, front steps, maybe into a garden in the front - or wherever it fits for your family). The idea is to show that we are supportive and welcoming! The hearts are made of concrete, so they should be fairly strong.

Hello, and welcome to the end of another busy week here at NLS! Today we: played BBQ tag in P.E. continued to work on art (our "what if everybody did that" project) - we are all working on our good copies or have just finished! learned about everyone's culture - today was Culture Day, so lots of students shared about their families! celebrated our first week with the Kindness Jar! Ask me about it this weekend!
