Hello NLS families,

Today we:
  • started to learn about food chains and played a game outside about them! You could have been a producer, a herbivore, a carnivore or a decomposer.
  • had gym outside - we plated tag and practiced passing 
  • continued to review rotations in math 
  • read 2 chapters of "The Jumbies" - we have been making lots of predictions! 
  • had picture day
  • started the planning of our stories

While exploring the intricate system of the Wetlands, we dove into a heated topic about protecting the land and creatures who depend on it. After watching a visually enthralling read aloud of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, 5A were tasked with writing a letter to either the Once-ler or the Lorax with their point of view on the situation. They were meant to emphasize the greed of the Once-ler and how the need for trees will affect multiple parts of life in the area. Everyone could comprehend the harm that the greed was causing and the need for oxygen needed for things to live. We also made a pledge to spread kindness and shed light this holiday season and wrote our pledge on Christmas tree cut outs.

Hello Grade 5 families, hope your week is going well! Today we: read about plants and animals (and their wetland adaptations) with a partner. The information is on google classroom if you want to see more about the task - it is NOT homework, we will be continuing to work on this in class. working on whole numbers (we were mainly reviewing concepts regarding place value - ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands and millions - and also we discussed ways to record numbers properly, so that place value is correct). We will be continuing to work on this! Ask me if I can correctly read the number 452 534 (and if I can say what column the hundreds would be!) continued to read and write about The Jumbies - ask me what happened in our novel today! also continued to talk about natural resources (what does natural resources mean, and what are some examples?), and also talked about how they impact where and how people live.  Reminders: Picture Orders - due by Nov...

Wednesday, September 22nd 2021

Hello! Hope you all had a great Wednesday.  Today we: in P.E. we played a game called "treasure island" learned about and practiced: reflections, rotations, translations  in math class!  we read the story of "how the rabbit got it's long ears" and we talked about descriptions, setting and visualizing while we listen to/read stories started RRJs (reading response journals) - we will work on them in class (as we read) and hand them in for Ms. Clark to read every other week.  Reminders: Tomorrow (Thursday, September 23rd) is the Terry Fox Run! You can still bring in any donations (or donate online - see previous email regarding this)! So far our class has raised over $60.00 for cancer research. Our whole school goal was $1000.00. Additionally, as the run is tomorrow, please make sure to dress appropriately for the weather - the run will be taking place outside tomorrow morning.
