Happy Friday!

Today we: 

  • played bench ball in Phys. Ed.
  • read a new chapter of "The Jumbies" - it was a really exciting chapter, we learned that the main character Corrine (and her friends) found out that Severine might be a jumbie! Ask me about what is happening!
  • did a reading task
  • played literacy games 
  • started to learn about numbers all the way to 1 million!

While exploring the intricate system of the Wetlands, we dove into a heated topic about protecting the land and creatures who depend on it. After watching a visually enthralling read aloud of The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, 5A were tasked with writing a letter to either the Once-ler or the Lorax with their point of view on the situation. They were meant to emphasize the greed of the Once-ler and how the need for trees will affect multiple parts of life in the area. Everyone could comprehend the harm that the greed was causing and the need for oxygen needed for things to live. We also made a pledge to spread kindness and shed light this holiday season and wrote our pledge on Christmas tree cut outs.

 Today we practiced our spelling and printing by writing wonderful holiday cards for seniors! 5A wrote lovely messages, outlined in sharpie, and festive pictures coloured and detailed to bring joy and kindness. We also compared our estimates of each population in Canada to the real data taken from 2020. Students were surprised to see how close and far their guesses were. We continue to research food chains of wetland animals and students are beginning to record their research in a flipgrid.

Hello all, Today we: started to discuss parts of Remembrance Day and learned about Cree Code Talkers in World War II. We read a story, an article and watched a video about this. We discussed lots about how this indigenous contribution to the war was very important! Tomorrow and next week, we will continue to learn and discuss about Remembrance Day.  continued to work on the rough copies of our wetland creature stories. Some students are done the rough copy, and others are still working on it. We will start editing on Monday, and then work on good copies after that - which we will be typing on the ChromeBooks, and also using art to represent our wetland creature. we had music today. learned a new math game called "concentration" - we are learning lots of different math games right now! continued to learn about place value and representing and describing whole numbers in math - no decimals yet (we will tackle that later on).
