Hi NLS Families,

Today 5A:

  • had our first day of music, ask me about it!
  • started to learn about wetlands for science 
  • we played literacy games and read for 11 minutes (we are building up our reading stamina)
  • played math battleship and learned about tangrams 

Key information for Grade 5 families:

  • Thursday, September 16th 5A will be going on a walk to Nose Creek Park for Wetland observations (our new science unit)! Please dress appropriately for the weather. We will be going in the morning, first thing! 
  • Culture Day is this Friday! Please see Monday's blog update for more information
  • Terry Fox Run - September 23rd. A School Messenger went out yesterday with more information regarding donations, etc.
  • Bring books from home - we are beginning daily independent reading, and students can either read a book from our classroom library, bring a book from home, or soon, will be able to sign out books from the LC

Hello NLS families - hope you all had a wonderful long weekend!  This week is a full 5 day week! Lots that we are currently doing in class.  Today we: continued to work on our Wetland Creatures Stories (everyone is working on their typing their good copies - our goal is to finish these stories up later this week).  had our second "Trickster's Theater" virtual workshop - today we wrote a story about a desert location and a man on a camel! We learned different ways and strategies to create interesting and creative stories!  continued to work on our social studies mini project about natural resources (you can see more about this task on our google classroom) - we should be finishing this project up tomorrow in class.  had P.E. also continued to practice using whole numbers by representing and describing them! Hello and welcome to October! Today we: played Literacy Games during our Literacy Block Centres (Literacy Games are only played on Fridays) had gym! We played a version of 4 corners and also fruit salad tag had an assembly to kick off "Field Study Fridays" - it was a virtual smudge ceremony and then we went on a short walking field trip to do our land offering. When we got back we did a small reflection on this.  had lots of time to read and play math games to practice our basic math facts Reminders: Orange Shirt Day Ceremony Hearts are going home today- please be careful when unpacking your backpacks tonight/this weekend! The hearts can be placed outside (e.g., front porch, front steps, maybe into a garden in the front - or wherever it fits for your family). The idea is to show that we are supportive and welcoming! The hearts are made of concrete, so they should be fairly strong.

Hello, and welcome to the end of another busy week here at NLS! Today we: played BBQ tag in P.E. continued to work on art (our "what if everybody did that" project) - we are all working on our good copies or have just finished! learned about everyone's culture - today was Culture Day, so lots of students shared about their families! celebrated our first week with the Kindness Jar! Ask me about it this weekend!
